It was a little too hot to ride bikes today, so we opted for painting in the shade.
(I love that Anne painted this painting of the paint set)
I kind of always dread the painting projects–it’s so messy. But when you’re painting outside, it’s a whole different story. Let the drips go, and the creativity flow! (Then just hose down the table and everything else when it’s clean up time!). I love outside. ;)

Anne made illustrations of Investigator Anne and the catching of a wanted bandit. (I’m still working on my book too–oh, actually, you can see my pink binder of notes and sketches way back there on the table. Yes, I took a break too and was sketching some fun ideas while my little artists were at work.)
Anne’s illustrations–I LOVE her artwork! It’s so bright and colorful.
Mary seemed to love drawing robots and princesses today.
I love her colors and cute shapes.
And here are some of the princesses…
This one is me–didn’t she do a good job! It looks just like me!
Eliza is in her impressionist stage. She’s a paint dabber and uses bits of of color and small brush strokes (and sometimes fingers) to create her work.
From left to right, here is Mary’s art called Robot, and two of Eliza’s works, Purple Experiment and Orange Thing

And here are a few more of today’s masterpieces…
When some of the pictures started blowing off the table, we tied a jumprope to the railing and used clothes pins to hang up the artwork to dry.
I love it when my kids use their creativity. It’s worth all the mess–and it was so fun to paint outside.
Here’s some Angel Street “Little Artist” wall decals that I designed for the little Rembrandts in our lives. Click HERE or click on the picture to see more.

Wow, you really are a brave mom. I have pretty much banned all markers, paints, pens… pretty much everything but washable crayons and pencils. I just can’t take the mess and the stains are too hard to clean up and get out of clothes carpet and off walls. We had a painting activity a few years ago and my then 3 year old (who is now 7) painted on the walls enough in the 2 minutes that I went to the bathroom that we had to repaint the whole room. 3 days later her older brother (that was 6 at the time) spilled an ink pad refill bottle all over our brand new natural stone tile floor which we were going to seal the following day. It completely ruined 12 of the tiles. No matter what we did, we couldn’t get the color out. The red ink left a strong pink hue and it was terrible. We ended up ripping out those tiles and redoing them.
So that was pretty much the last straw for us. Anyway. Sorry for hijacking your blog with my story. I’m glad you are able to have fun with paint. Maybe we should build a deck and do the same as you.

Wow, that is just terrible. I had a similar experience when my daughters friend spilled grape juice all over our living room carpet. I spent an entire day trying to scrub it out without any luck. I ended up replacing it.

That is just terrible! So sorry you had such a bad experience! I always hesitate doing big messy activities, but then feel like the creativity is important for the kids. I have plenty of “wall art” around here that I’ve had to use my scrubbing mussles for. Those Mr. Clean Magic Erasers work amazingly well for the small art–but definitely couldn’t manage the wall murals or the tile! Ooh! Even when we did this painting on the deck we had some drips that I had to scrub by hand. I’m thinking next time I’ll be moving the table on to the grass.
